THE F-44R

The F-44R is the racing version of the Farrier F-41, with more waterline length, a taller rig, and a lower profile cabin for less windage and weight. It is an ideal sport racer, with a very high performance level while also still offering good accommodation. The F-41 upper cabin can be added later, if wished, to restore full F-41 style cruising amenities and room, giving an an excellent resale value, which can be a common problem with more extreme racers.

Construction is foam core and fiberglass, using the same vertical foam stripping system as used with the F-41. Carbon fiber or Kevlar reinforcing fabrics are optional for even greater performance.

The 17.9m (58' 9") rotating mast (wing recommended) incorporates many advanced features as used on the F-25C and F-31R. High tech synthetic line is recommended for shrouds, coupled with carbon fiber chainplates. Sails include square top main, blade jib, asymmetrical spinnaker, and a retractable bow pole mounted screacher for maximum efficiency and light air performance.

The forward bow beam is carbon fiber composite with a Kevlar striker for minimum weight and maximum. stiffness (essential for a screacher to work well). Lateral area is provided by a daggerboard in each hull for the maximum performance.

Deep daggerboard type transom hung rudders are standard, having proved to be the best all round rudder system on Farrier trimaran designs. Efficient and deep transom rudders, coupled with a long lever arm, give excellent control and handling, yet each rudder blade can still be retracted vertically for less drag in lighter conditions, or easy light steering in shallow water. The blade is mounted in a special case which also allows it to safely kick up when necessary. Blade is angled forward which has been found to minimize or eliminate any risk of ventilation, and enough to give the necessary balance area for a light helm. But, more importantly, the balance area is easily adjustable at any time to give the perfect helm.

Cockpit can be the same as the F-41 or extended forward to just behind the mast, giving an excellent and large crew work area. Accommodation is concentrated in the hulls, with full standing headroom, and separate fwd. and aft cabins as desired. Bridgedeck cabin area retains considerable room, but only with sitting headroom.

F-44R Optional Open Deck Layout

Auxuiliary power is provided by twin outboard motors, which retract into their own enclosed wells under cockpit seats, eliminating any prop drag. Water ballast tanks can also be fitted aft in each hull.
